Business Women’s Week

Mayor John Lewis signed a proclamation declaring the week of October 14th through October 20th to be Business Women’s Week. We have a full week planned to support, encourage, and celebrate working women everywhere. We will begin our week on Sunday October 14th with “Church with the President” at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Then on Monday we will celebrate the past presidents of the Mt. Vernon Business Women’s Club with appetizers at Applebees followed by a trip to the movies to see First Man. Then on Tuesday we will have a fun night of Bowling at Nu bowl lanes. Wednesday the 17th we have the Candidates Forum at the Rolland Lewis building, the meet and greet will start at 5:30 and the forum will start at 6 pm. I encourage everyone to try to attend this informational event. On Thursday we will attend the Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce luncheon, and we will finish the week on Friday by attending the Centralia BPW’s Salad luncheon in Centralia. This is such a great week with fun and relaxing times to sped together. I encourage anyone wanting more information about any of our events or what we do to contact us, we would love to hear from you! Let us all take time to appreciate working women everywhere this week!

2018 Pumpkin Contest

It is once again that time of year when we have the Great Pumpkin decorating contest. The event will take place at Fall Fest on Saturday October 29th at the Mt. Vernon Business Womens Club tent. We will be accepting entries from 8 AM to 11 AM and judging will take place at 11:30 with winners announced at noon at the tent. September meeting welcomes 3 new members!

The September meeting was a very exciting one for us as we installed 3 new members! We are so excited to welcome our 3 newest members: Natalie Wellen, Nikki Timberlake, and Gloria Martin. Ladies we are so glad to have you and I know that not only will you enrich our group but you will get amazing things in return from our incredible group of women!

 

Also at our September meeting Jennifer Mcarthy came and spoke to us about Lifeboat Alliance. They are providing such an amazing service to our area and I encourage you to reach out to them and find out more about their great organization and see what they are doing for our community. It was a very informative presentation and such a needed asset to our community.

As always please remember that we meet the second monday of each month at Kingdom Seed ministries at 6 PM and we would love to have you join us!

Fall Fest Ad Book

Ad sales for our Fall Festival Guide book are in full swing. If you would like to get your business, candidate information or just show your community support please contact a Business Women’s Club member for pricing and ad design. President Amanda Burk 316-2100 or Carol Burk 246-6768 or any member. Our prices are right and our Guide Books contain helpful information regarding the Fall Festival.

Be thinking about your design for our Pumpkin Decorating Contest at Fall Festival also. Extra points this year for incorporating the Fall Festival theme “Illinois Proud”. Awards to the top three in adult and child categories.

We are always looking for new members with new ideas. Come be our guest at a meeting!

August monthly meeting

It’s time for the Mt. Vernon Business Women’s Club monthly meeting!Tonight, August 13th at Kingdom Seed Ministries at 6 pm. Our meeting will include induction of new member Gloria Martin and guest speaker Monte Jo Clark of Kingdom Seed regarding their “Happy Feet” project which provides new shoes for children needing shoes to start school.

We will be discussing the ongoing sale of ads for the Fall Festival Guide Book. Just a reminder the ads and payments are due by August 31st.

Refreshments will be fresh peach crisp, chocolate cake and ice cream! Please plan to join us.

Annual July Picnic

It’s time again for the Mt Vernon BWC picnic meeting. We will be meeting at 6 pm on Monday, July 9th at Kingdom Seed Ministries,118 S 9th Street in Mt Vernon. The club will furnish the meat, drinks and table service. Those attending are ask to bring a dish or two to share. The Victory Boys Quartet will be providing music. We will once again be having our “Make it, Bake it, Grow it, Sew it” Auction. Bring something to include that show cases your hobbies and skills! We hope you will make plans to come and join in the fun! See you there!

June meeting at Heritage Woods

The Mt. Vernon Business Women’s Club had a great time at our June monthly meeting. We went to Heritage Woods and spent time with two of our members Cleo Pigg and Helen Thackery. A great time was had by all, lots of smiles, laughs, stories, and of course great company!

 

May general membership meeting

The May Mt. Vernon Business Women’s Club will be holding their monthly meeting on Monday, May 14th at 6:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Seed Ministries at 118 S. 9th Street in Mt Vernon, Illinois.

The program for this month will include the presentation of Ellen Ashton New Opportunities Scholarships to April Kohute and Benay Walker. Each of these Scholarships will be in the amount of $1,000. Congratulations to our 2018 Scholarship winners.

Also we will be installing the 2018-19 officers. Officers to be installed will be President – Amanda Burk, President-Elect – Crystal Webster, Recording Secretary – Marilyn Konold, Treasurer – Carol Burk, Corresponding Secretary – Eileen Williams and Members-at-Large – Tana Dehart, Gwen Gross, Patsy Timm and Linda Trivisonno.

We hope you all will plan to attend to meet our scholarship winners and support the 2018-19 officers.

Mt. Vernon BWC will be “Embracing the Future while Appreciating the Past” in 2018-19 as the Illinois Federation of Business Women celebrate their 100th Anniversary. This is going to be a very exciting year for IFBWC and we hope you will come and join us in our celebration. Visitors are always welcome and new members are always encouraged to join our membership!

The Mount Vernon Business Women’s Club has three scholarships offered annually, The Dora E. Brydon scholarship is for a student entering the healthcare profession, the Wilma K. Harpole scholarship is for students entering the field of business, and the Ellen Ashton New Opportunities scholarship awarded to a woman going back to school to further her education. Attached to this post you will find the guidelines for applying, as well as instructions and the forms available to print. If you have any questions you may email the club at mvnbwc@hotmail.com or youmay contact any member, call one of the scholarship committee members listed on the form or contact the club president Amanda Burk at 618-316-2100 for further help.

February general meeting

The February BWC meeting will be held tomorrow night, February 12th at 6:00 pm at the Kingdom Seed Ministries at 118 S. 9th Street in Mt. Vernon. Our guest speaker will be Mandy Bazillion from the Mended Little Hearts organization. Our community project is donations of small items or cash for the United Way “Pioneer Woman” silent auction basket. Business to be discussed will be the upcoming Scholarship Luncheon, the IFBWC State Convention in April, future community projects and the Candidates Forum. It is important for our members to attend so you know what is currently happening in our Local as well as to have an input in decisions effecting future projects and involvement by the Mt. Vernon BWC. I know the weather is not the best but having a quorum present is essential. Hope to see you then!
